TranSacred Pride Ritual

Hello trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender expansive kin! If you are local to the Mnisota Makoce (twin cities) area, we would love for you to join us IRL for a ritual to remember and reclaim our sacredness, to practice listening to our wise and courageous Transcestors, and to practice creativity as we fortify spiritual protection for all gender expansive people. This TranSacred Ritual will be held on Sunday, June 29 at 3:00 - 4:30 PM at the New City Center (3104 16th Ave S) in Powderhorn, MPLS.

If you identify as an ally to trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender expansive folks, or if you aren’t local or aren’t able to make it that day but would like to participate anyway, you are invited to share a blessing: maybe a few words or a sentence, or maybe an image of some art you made that helps you feel connected to other trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender expansive people. At some point during the ritual, these blessings will be offered to help us remember that we are loved, and that we will not be facing whatever is coming alone.

FAQ

  • Owen Marciano received a spiritual download early in 2025 and began designing a ritual for trans, nonbinary, Intersex, Two Spirit, and other gender expansive people to remember and reclaim our sacredness, to practice listening to our wise and courageous Transcestors, and to create and fortify spiritual protection for all gender expansive people.

Galen Smith (@Care_Witch) will be holding space with Owen for this second TranSacred Ritual, focusing on a collective creative practice (no experience necessary!)

TranSacred Pride Ritual is a closed space, a chance for us to gather and practice listening to our Trancestors together. There will be some praying, some reflecting, some listening for blessings, and some sharing of blessings with each other. There will be some singing, some listening to music, and some resting we will do together.  All of these are offerings you may witness and/or participate in, depending on your interest and desire.

There will be offerings for you to receive – plants, herbs, teas, art, etc. – and take home with you at the end of the ritual.

  • This TranSacred Pride ritual offering will primarily be held by Galen and Owen, supported by José, Alexis, and Elio.

Galen Smith (they/them) is a middle aged, queer, trans, genderqueer, Mad, Disabled, Fat, heretical, abolitionist witch and a white settler on Dakota land. Their deepest desire is for universal, irresistible, interconnected, communities and cultures of radical care. They are passionate about providing spiritual care for queer, trans and disabled folks. After attending the first TransSacred gathering they felt called to help anchor ongoing gatherings for gender expansive folks to practice care and listen to Spirit together.

Owen Marciano (he/him) is a white, fat, queer, transmasc, genderqueer, disabled artist of european descent & dissent). He felt called to offer this and to ask for support from trans & nonbinary people he knows through a group of people of european descent/dissent actively engaged in decolonial ancestral reconnection and repair work.

José María Herrera Tamayo (they/them/él) is a brujx, Santa Muerte devotee and information worker who loves crow journaling, tending to their grief garden and spending time with their pets.

Alexis Ray (she/her/hers) is a biracial trans yoga instructor and a new reiki practitioner with Odigo Wellness under the name Phoenix Feather Yoga. Her gentle flow yoga classes at Odigo (every Sunday at 11:30AM) are free for trans folks using code “T4FREE”.  She is a poet, singer, musician, gardener and hostess of a monthly crafternoon brunch. She’s currently planning a trans clothing swap at Odigo Wellness in July, details TBA.

Elio (they/them) is an educator, potter, and aspiring herbalist living in Minneapolis.

We are looking forward to hosting you!

  • The space where we will be having the ritual is in the Cedar Room (the main sanctuary space) at New City Center (the old Walker Church), 3104 16th Ave S, Powderhorn, Minneapolis.

The entrance to New City Center is ramped and has ADA compliant push-button door operators that open and hold the front doors. The event is being held on the second floor which can be accessed by stairs or an elevator.

Seating is available on plastic folding chairs or on the floor. If you have a favorite sit-upon (cushion, yoga mat, camp chair, etc), please feel free to bring it with you.

There are multiple single stall non-gendered bathrooms available in the building. There is usually plenty of free street parking around the building. There is space for a couple of vehicles with disability parking permits to park directly in front. The 21 and 14 bus routes run close by.

Masks are required for our event but this is a community building and there may be other groups using the space that do not require masks.

The ritual will be presented in English. We may be using visuals (images and words projected on a screen) as part of the ritual, and the facilitator (Owen) will do his best to describe and read aloud whatever is shown on the screen.

We will have some art materials available for those who find it helpful to be doodling or writing as they practice presence.

If you have access needs or requests that are not already addressed, please let us know by filling out the registration form and telling us what you would need in order to join for the ritual.

  • While we have not specifically centered children in our dreaming and designing of this ritual, we welcome you and your kids! We will have some art supplies available for all to use, and generally sound and movement around the space will be encouraged.

  • N95 (or similar) masks will be required for all who attend the ritual. We will have extra masks available for those who don’t bring their own.

We are asking folks not to eat or drink in the ritual space itself, but to step out to do so.

There may be children in the space who are too young to be masking.

  • TranSacred Ritual is FREE to attend! And, if you would like to offer support in the form of money, we gratefully accept!

Those of us holding this ritual are not doing this as part of a job or in any way getting paid for it. Any cash you can contribute toward this ritual will go to cover our space rental costs. Anything over that will be shared with us, the ritual hosts. Anything over that will be offered back to the community, either through donation to a trans organization or toward future rituals like this one.

You can offer money through the blessings form, or if you are planning to attend, you can bring cash with you.

  • Not for this event, but there may be future rituals like this one, depending on how it is received by our community, and having virtual rituals in the future is certainly a possibility.

If you would like to attend a future ritual, virtual or in person, please fill out the registration form and let us know

  • Yes! You can use this form to submit a blessing for the ritual, whether or not you are planning to attend.

If you are interested in receiving blessings after the ritual and are unable to attend, please fill out the registration form and let us know. We will follow up with details after we receive your request for a blessing.

  • No, pre-registration is not required, but it is encouraged! This is the best way to help us get a realistic sense of how many folks to expect and prepare for. If you are able to register ahead of time, please do!

  • The best way to do this is through the registration form. There is a spot on the form for you to name any access needs or requests. Naming your needs here does not guarantee that we will be able to meet them, but the sooner you can let us know what you think you’ll need, the more likely we can accommodate you.

  • No preparation is necessary. Please come as you are.

And, if you would like to prepare, you are invited to bring with you a sacred object – something small that you might place on our collective altar for the ritual that helps you remember that you are sacred, that trans/NB/TS/I++ people are sacred, and that connects you with Spirit, with the Land, with anything that you consider sacred. (All altar objects you bring will be returned to you at the end of the ritual.)

We will have some cushioned folding chairs available for guests. If you have a favorite sit-upon (cushion, yoga mat, camp chair), please feel free to bring it with you.

  • Please send us blessings! We are looking for messages of love and support, art, images, spells, prayers, cash money, and anything else you can think to offer that will help trans/NB/TS/I folks know we are not alone in these dangerous times.
